Reichert, Wien with pivoted plano-concave mirror to underside, the fixed columnar limb stamped No. 11298 applied to weighted ‘U’ shaped foot further signed C. REICHERT, WIEN, VIII. Bennogasse 26. to upper surface, in original mahogany box with four objective lens canisters two inscribed R. & J. BECK, another FLATTERS & GARNETT LTD, MANCHESTER and the last C. BAKER, 244 High Holborn, LONDON, two eyepiece lenses and stage accessories, the box 25cm (10ins) wide. Carl Reichert was a son in law of Ernst Leitz for whom he worked in Wetzler, Germany before leaving to found his own Company in Vienna in 1876. His company was very successful producing the 100000th microscope by 1930. However in 1962, the family Reichert sold the business to the company American Optical, who in turn were taken over in 1968 by the worldwide pharmaceutical company Warner Lambert
