AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL SILVER-MOUNTED MOTHER-O'-PEARL & COLLAPSIBLE PAPER LANTERN
INDISTINCT CONTROL MARK, PROBABLY FRENCH, 1ST. HALF OF 18TH. CENTURY
AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL SILVER-MOUNTED MOTHER-O'-PEARL & COLLAPSIBLE PAPER LANTERN, INDISTINCT CONTROL MARK, PROBABLY FRENCH, 1ST. HALF OF 18TH. CENTURY, Circular mother-o'-pearl cover & base, the latter with silver rim, decorated with concentric circles, centred at top & bottom with a silver flower-head mount, the hinged cover with scrollwork mount around hinge & sliding hook which secures the cover in place by going through the head of a spike affixed in the base which presumably holds a small candle, the paper concertina sides, with red & blue stripes, held in place when the lantern is suspended via a hole in the cover, approx, 3 in. high (7 cm.) when expanded, 3 1/8 in. diameter (8 cm.), (crack to mother-o'-pearl cover on edge).
