An early 20th century German skeleton timepiece, by Gustav Becker, silvered chapter ring inscribed with Arabic numerals, blued steel hands, movement ... signed Gustav Becker, Freiburg in Schl, crown and anchor mark, numbered 218522, brass scroll frame work, glass dome, stepped oval mahogany base, bun feet, 33cm high overall, c.1905 The true torsion pendulum clock was patented in America in 1841 and in Germany, reflecting clocks in the form seen here in 1877 and again in Austrian Empire in 1880. Becker himself was of Freiburg, Silesia, and was making clocks by 1850, getting a gold medal for a 'Vienna' type pendulum clock from the Schlesia Exhibition in 1852, a fact reflected in the wording of the backplate stamp.
