AN EGYPTIAN FRAGMENTARY LIMESTONE FIGURE OF KHETY MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XI-XIV, 2040-1640 B.C. Preserved from the waist down, joined to the upper body of a disparate but also ancient sculpture, depicted seated with his arms at his sides, his hands resting on his thighs, palms down, his sandaled feet apart, wearing a long belted kilt, his torso revealing folds of flesh, his striated shoulder-length wig tucked behind his prominent ears, his angular face with a wrinkled forehead and large lidded eyes beneath arching brows in relief, the thin nose and small mouth defined by naso-labial folds, the sides of the seat sunken in but for a right-angled brace in raised relief at the bottom rear corner, the low seat back with a rounded top, surmounted by a thin rectangular back pillar, all on an low integral plinth, with a column of hieroglyphs on the kilt, reading: "Beloved of his Lord, one who does that which Hathor praises/favors, the First Prophet, Khety, Possessor of Veneration," a column along the proper left side, reading: "One who does that which Hathor Lady of Atfih (Aphroditopolis) praises/favors in the course of every day, the First Prophet Khety," and a column along the proper right side, reading: "One who does that which...[Re-]Harakhty praises/favors the course of every day when he sets the West, the First Prophet Khety, Possessor of Veneration" 11¾ in.
