An Elizabeth II brass-bound mahogany eight-day limited edition Silver Jubilee marine chronometer Thomas Mercer, St. Albans, No. 20. The silvered dial with engraved Roman chapters, signed Thomas. Mercer MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY ST. ALBANS ENGLAND No. 20 , up-down sector at XII and seconds ring at VI, blued steel hands, the movement with main assembly with three turned brass columns with blued steel screws, the spotted backplate signed Thomas Mercer St. Albans No. 20 and carrying the chain fusee and barrel with centre wheel, the sub-assembly with three smaller pillars carrying the remainder of the train and escapement with palladium helical spring and cut bimetallic compensated balance, transverse mounted Mercer flat-strip steel detent escapement with jewelled locking stone and adjustable foot, the dial plate numbered 1174N , brass bowl with spring-loaded winding cover to the underside, the inner punch-numbered 55 , the case with vacant brass inlaid cartouche to the top lid, centre section inlaid with circular silvered plaque engraved THE QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE 1977 beneath a crown and within a laurel wreath, drop handles to the sides; with the original green canvas-covered travelling box and the original gold tooled red leather-bound presentation book, Mercer Chronometers, Radical Tom Mercer and the House he founded , 1978, limited edition No. 20, signed the author, the forward by Lieut Commander David Harries, FRGS, FBHI. 130 mm. dial diam., 208 mm. sq. box
