An elm and walnut dining table, of refectory type, in 17th century Italian style, probably constructed from 18th and 19th century elements, 73.5cm high, the top 93.5cm wide, 342cm long Provenance: Private Collection, The Manor House, Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use, old chips and splits. Some old losses. The top of polished appearance and may have had various treatments/ varnished applied to it over time. Some darker/ deeper old scratches. Some old losses/ knots/ losses have been disguised used old filler. The base elements of the table can be detached from the top. Screws of various later date have been used to secure them and the iron stretchers. It is not possible to provide the weight. The top alone requires atleast two very capable and experienced people to lift if not four people for the sake of safety. The top and base elements probably associated to each other. The design of the iron stretchers suggests a possible Spanish origin although they appear likely to be 19th or 20th century in date. The stretchers applied to the tops of the walnut base sections of the table appear 19th or 20th century in date and some later nails have been used to secure these elements.
