With rebrowned scratch rifled slightly swamped twist octagonal sighted barrels, long case-hardened recessed patent breeches each with gold line, gold-lined maker's stamp and touch-hole, finely engraved case-hardened tangs each incorporating the back-sight, signed engraved case-hardened detented locks each with blued steel-spring, semi-rainproof pan, and roller bearing on a ramp, figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts, finely engraved blued iron mounts, blued trigger-plates each with pineapple finial, silver escutcheons, original horn-tipped ramrods, and much original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case (central partition loose) with accessories including three-way powder-flask covered in red leather, the lid with trade label for circa 1793-1805 overstamped twice 'J. Holmes/Gun Maker/ 5 Market Square, Penrith.', the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and oval plaque inscribed 'Lord Vis.t Lowther' 15 in. (38.1 cm.)
