An exceptional pair of George III ormolu-mounted red tortoiseshell musical table clocks of small size, made for the Ottoman market Markwick Markham London. Circa 1765 The pair of cases with well cast ormolu foliate mounts applied to bell tops surmounted by acanthus leaf handles, each with flame-urn finials to all angles and with double ormolu foliate side frets, conforming quarter frets above the front and rear ormolu-lined doors, the chamfered angles applied with fluted pilasters, above ormolu-bound bases with outset angles raised on ormolu foliate scroll feet, the 4 3/8 in. wide dials with floral painted spandrels to silvered chapter rings with Turkish numerals, the painted centres decorated with harbour scenes, also with recessed silvered plaques signed Markwick Markham/LONDON , the arches also painted and with silvered subsidiary four tune music selection rings ( Sabac Haffif/A Minuett/A March/Uckac Devir ), blued steel hands, both movements with six ring-turned pillars, triple gut fusees, pivoted verge escapement, hour strike on single bell and music on a nest of six bells via twelve hammers and 6 cm. long pin barrel, the back plates with foliate engraving and signed Markwick Markham/London ; two pendulums, case keys 13½ in. (34 cm.) high, handle down (2)
