AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE 12 BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR PIGEON GUN BY J. PURDEY & SONS, NO. 27128 Profusely gold encrusted by K.C Hunt, treble grip action, gold washed lockwork, side clips, single trigger, barrel selector switch, cocking indicators, manual safety, the underside of the action bar signed in gold James Purdey & Sons, the side plates each signed K.C Hunt, the blued fences and top-lever gold encrusted with representations of squirrels amongst branches of oak leaves and acorns, the action body, lockplates, furniture, forend iron and finial profusely gold-damascened with scrolls and geometric patternwork all on a blued ground, each lockplate gold encrusted with representations of a pointer, retriever, pheasants and duck in natural surroundings, the trigger-guard bow gold encrusted with representations of three ducks in flight, fully figured stock with pistol-grip, the pistol-grip cap engraved with the late owner's address, beavertail forend, the chopper lump barrels with matt ventilated rib, the breech-ends inlaid with plain bands of gold and encrusted with branches of oak leaves and acorns, the barrels inlaid in gold with the Maker's name and address Weight 8lbs 5½oz., 14½in. stock, 30in. barrels, approximately ½ and extra full chokes, 2¾in. chambers, nitro proof In Maker's brass bound oak and leather case with leather bound canvas cover complete with horn turn screws, spare strickers, oil bottle, snap caps, extractor and cleaning accessories. This lot is sold with the original letter illustrated on the back page, together with an original copy of Guns and Ammo. from 1974, in which the gun is featured as well as the original delivery packaging.
