AN EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE CASED 54-BORE JAMES WEBLEY PATENT 'LONGSPUR' (LATE FIRST MODEL) FIVE-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER BY JAMES WEBLEY, ST. MARY'S SQUARE, BIRMINGHAM, SERIAL NO. 250, CIRCA 1853 With blued octagonal sighted barrel signed in full, engraved with a band of foliage at the muzzle and cut with multi-groove rifling, blued barrel wedge, the right side of the barrel with bright stud for the attachable rammer, case-hardened cylinder engraved with a band of foliage at the front edge and numbered from '1' to '5', the cylinder rotating in a counter-clockwise direction, border and scroll engraved blued frame including removable inspection plate signed 'JAMES WEBLEY PATENTEE' within a ribbon, the grip-strap serial numbered and signed 'BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT', case-hardened engraved hammer with chequered spur, finely chequered figured walnut grips, and blued border and scroll engraved trigger-guard and butt-cap, the latter with lanyard ring, retaining virtually all its original finish throughout and in apparently unfired condition, Birmingham proof marks, in original fitted mahogany case lined in green baize with accessories including a fine revolver flask, combined rammer and stripping-tool, brass single-cavity 'WD' bullet mould and Dixon oil bottle, the exterior with shield-shaped brass escutcheon 7in. (17.8cm.) barrel
