An Imperial edict. China, dated to the 9th day of the 11th lunar month of the 34th year of the Guangxu period (corresponding to 1908).
An Imperial edict. China, dated to the 9th day of the 11th lunar month of the 34th year of the Guangxu period (corresponding to 1908). Mounted as a handscroll, approximately 160 inches length by 12½ inches width, the text arranged in standard form reading from left to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, the Chinese text opening with a seven-character title in a vertical line, Yu Shimei zi zhu fumu , 'A posthumous honor granted to the grandparents of Yu Shimei', followed by a long text and ending with the date, the 34th year of Guangxu, corresponding to 1908, stamped with a seal impression within a square beside each transliteration The present edict is addressed to a Shangdong high official, Yu Shimei.
