AN IMPORTANT AND EXTREMELY RARE EARLY MING KESI THANGKA YONGLE PERIOD (1403-1425) The Sakyamuni Buddha depicted in vibrant, fresh colours with finely rendered facial features framed by pendulous ears, the head with a pronounced usnisa and covered with tightly curled whorls, seated atop a single lotus flower pedestal, the hands in bhumisparsa mudra, the 'earth witnessing gesture', wearing loose robes draped from the shoulder and picked out in shades of red, orange and beige, the linings and hem in shades of blue, all within a circular aureole within a square blue panel framed with a yellow and red border 12 x 12 3/4 in.
