AN IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS RELATING TO MECCA AND THE HAJJ , INCLUDING A FIRST EDITION OF GENERAL IBRAHIM RIF'AT PASHA'S MIR'AT AL-HARAMAYN EGYPT, EARLY 20TH CENTURY Comprising 1) Rif'at Pasha's major topographical work on Hejaz and the Hajj, Mir'at al-Haramayn aw al-Rihlat al-Hijaziya ("The Mirror of the Two Holy Shrines, or Travels in Hejaz and the Hajj and its Religious Ceremonies"), first edition in two volumes, 8vo, Arabic text with occasional English translation, 557 photographs and illustrations; 2) The Certificate of pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina of Shaykh 'Abbas Kararah, dated AH 1348-49, coloured lithograph; 3) A medal by the royal jeweller Tawfiq Bishay given to Shaykh 'Abbas Kararah by Ibn Sa'ud at Fu'ad University, Cairo, 12 January 1946 4) 'Abd al-'Aziz Muhammad Sharaf's Al-Malik 'Abd al-'Aziz wa al-Mamlak a al-'Arabiya al-Sa'udiya fi Mir'at al-Sahafa al-Masriya ; this work mentions Ibn Kararah's award by Ibn Sa'ud 5) An original photograph of Muhammad 'Ali Efendi Sa'udi, 15.8 x 10.3cm.; 6) A photographic print of the Ka'ba, taken by Muhammad 'Ali Efendi Sa'udi, originally taken in AH 1321/1904 AD but never inserted in his book 7) A photographic print of the purported letter of the Prophet Muhammad to the Byzantine Emperor, and its modern Arabic transcription, taken by Muhammad 'Ali Efendi Sa'udi 8) Two original photographic portraits of Sulayman Pasha Ibn Rafada, chief of the tribe of Beli, half-length and full-length, taken by Rifa't Pasha, printed and mounted by Fasani & Grivas, Cairo, 22.7 x 16.3cm. and 22.2 x 16.3cm.; 9) An original photographic portrait of an unidentified Egyptian official, printed and mounted by Fasani & Grivas, Cairo, 22.8 x 16.7cm.; 10) A diapositive glass stereoview portrait of Muhammad 'Ali Efendi Sa'udi, 4.4 x 10.5cm.; 11) Four printed Ottoman Turkish counterfoil passports, completed in Arabic manuscript, 1904 and 1906, allowing pilgrims attached to the Mahmal to access the Hejaz 12) A colour printed map of Mecca by the Survey of Egypt, circa 1948, 61.8 x 95.7cm.; (13)
