An important Continental large gold-mounted, enamelled, and jewel-set hardstone pendant vinaigrette possibly German, second half of the 19th Century Vase-shaped, of oval section, with two gryphon monopodia handles each with enamelled green wings, white borders and baroque pearl drop, the deep red garnet body mounted with a gold band enamelled in blue and set with sapphires and diamonds in scrolling foliage, the cabochon garnet lower section with fluted mount enamelled in white, and with baroque pearl, blue enamel and diamond-set drop, the cover applied with scrolls filled with blue enamel highlighted with white, the shoulders set with four large diamonds, rising to a domed hardstone finial surmounted by an enamelled blue flower set with a large, probably Ceylonese sapphire, suspended on a gold chain from a coiled serpent loop, with blue enamelled slide set with two sapphires and a pearl drop, the removable grille engraved and pierced with foliate scrolls, and with pierced bud finial 6 in. (152 mm.) long overall
