Fullered blade, decorated with two extensive etched panels of American Eagle, US , and panoply-of-arms motifs is mounted with a gilt brass hilt pierced and chased with floral scroll motifs surrounding US . Twisted wire wrapped ray-skin grip. Nickel plated scabbard with presentation inscription Presented to/Lieut. Louis N. Stodder,/by the Citizens of Boston/Feby. 23, 1863 . With four engravings along scabbard noting FORT DARLING/MAY 15, 1862 , MONITOR AND MERRIMAC/MARCH 9, 1862 , FOUNDERED OFF CAPE HATTERAS DEC. 31, 1862 and SEWALLS POINT/MAY 8, 1862 . Three elaborate gilt brass mounts with American Eagle, Panoply-of-arms and foliate scroll motifs. 32 inch blade.
