An Important Large Black Stone Head of a Crowned Buddha Northeastern India, Bihar, Pala Period, 10th/11th Century His face very well carved with a benevolent expression, bow-shaped mouth with pursed lips, heavy-lidded downcast eyes beneath gently arched brows in relief, wearing a high crown with foliate triangular panels interspersed with lotus flowers, a neat line of curls issuing from beneath the crown onto his forehead, the stone smoothly polished 19 in. (48.2 cm.) high
