AN IMPORTANT PAIR OF ROYAL GERMAN SILVER TWO-LIGHT WALL-SCONCES
MARK OF FRIEDRICH KETTWYCK, HAMBURG, CIRCA 1670, WITH THE WARDEN'S MARK OF WOLFF HEINRICH DICK (W.1661-1671), ONE DRIP-PAN ON EACH WITH MARK OF JOCHIM TIMME
AN IMPORTANT PAIR OF ROYAL GERMAN SILVER TWO-LIGHT WALL-SCONCES MARK OF FRIEDRICH KETTWYCK, HAMBURG, CIRCA 1670, WITH THE WARDEN'S MARK OF WOLFF HEINRICH DICK (W.1661-1671), ONE DRIP-PAN ON EACH WITH MARK OF JOCHIM TIMME Each shaped oval chased with foliate scrolls and flowers, the centre with oval cartouche applied with a cast bust portrait of Susanna, with acanthus-capped scroll branches applied beneath, each terminating in circular drip-pan with acanthus foliage calyx and vase-shaped foliage nozzle, engraved, slightly later, with monogram 'GL' beneath German Royal crown, the reverse of one with hook and the other with replacement ring, each marked on back-plate and one drip-pan , with later added detachable central branches, one with a detachable strengthening backplate with mark of Johann Karl Matthias, Hanover, circa 1850 30 in. (76 cm.) high 336 oz. (10,461 gr.), the additional central branches and backplate 50 oz. (1,590 gr.) The monogram is that of Georg Ludwig, Elector of Hanover (1660-1727), later King George I of England (1714-1727). (2)
