AN INDIAN SABRE WITH POLYCHROME ENAMELLED SILVER HILT AND SCABBARD MOUNT, LUCKNOW 18 T H EARLY 19 T H CENTURY With fine 18 t h century Persian blade of watered steel, curved, double-edged towards a slender tapering reinforced point, cut with a series of narrow grooves arranged in pairs below the back-edge on both sides, with further arrangements of grooves differing on respective sides below the hilt, and the entire pattern picked-out in delicate gold inlays, silver hilt of characteristic Lucknow type, including the quillon terminals and the pommel formed as rams' heads, faceted grip, decorated with differing panels of flowers and foliage, and inlaid with polychrome enamels throughout, in its original fabric-covered wooden scabbard with enamelled silver chape en suite with the hilt (the hilt enamels chipped, knuckle-chain missing, the scabbard body cracked and worn) 32¼in (81.9cm) blade
