An Inlaid Hardwood Lacquered Panel, inlaid with stained ivory, jade, agate and gilt metal, depicting scholarly objects including a tripod vessel on an archaistic stand containing more scholars' objects, a celadon jade carving of two peaches on a pierced and carved ivory stand, and an archaistic bi disc pendant hanging from a long tasseled cord, against a black lacquer ground, together with an attached hardwood frame, 19th century, c. 67.5 x 50 cm; wear The objects adorning this panel not only represent the scholar's studio but are also steeped in auspicious symbolism, such as the wish for longevity, good fortune and wealth represented by the group of scholar's objects and fruit, for example peach (tao), bat (happiness), phoenix (good fortune) PROVENANCE: From a Swedish private collection, purchased during 1960's.
