An inter-war M.B.E. group of five awarded to Paymaster Commander H. S. Bradbrook, Royal Naval Reserve The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Civil) Member’s 1st type breast badge, silver, hallmarks for London 1924; 1914 Star (Asst. Payr. H. S. Bradbrook, R.N.R., Transport Staff); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Payr. Lt. H. S. Bradbrook, R.N.R.); Royal Naval Reserve Officer’s Decoration, G.V.R., silver and silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1928, the third with officially re-impressed naming, glue deposits to reverses, otherwise generally very fine or better (5) £340-380 Footnote 173 1914 Stars issued to the Transport Staff. M.B.E. London Gazette 3 June 1931. Howard Stanley Bradbrook was appointed an Acting Assistant Paymaster in the Royal Naval Reserve in October 1914, the same month in which he became an Assistant to the Deputy Naval Transport Officer for Ostend and Boulogne (1914 Star). In October 1917, he transferred in a similar capacity to Dunkirk, services that resulted in his mention in despatches (London Gazette 20 May 1918, refers). Advanced to Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander in September 1924, Bradbrook was awarded his M.B.E. in respect of services as British Vice-Consul at Boulogne.
