AN ITALIAN CARVED WALNUT ARMORIAL CASSONE ROME, LATE 16TH EARLY 17TH CENTURY The hinged rectangular top with lappeted and beaded edge, enclosing a plain interior above a floral entrelac border, the relief-carved front panel centred by a coat-of-arms for the Vitolini family and depicting classical scenes, the sides with grotesque masks flanked by male herms to back and putto supports to front angles, the apron with a winged female mask, above a conformingly-decorated edge and grotesque -carved feet, traces of gilding, with a modern golden velvet lined plinth base 27½ in. (70 cm.) high; 66 in. (168 cm.) wide; 22½ in. (57 cm.) deep
