AN OWARI MASATSUNE NAGINATA EDO PERIOD (1607-1619), SIGNED SAGAMI (NO) KAMI FUJIWARA MASATSUNE NYUDO Configuration ( sugata ): naginata with tri-bevelled back ( mitsu-mune ); length ( nagasa ): 1 shaku , 5 sun , 9.5 bu (48.3cm.); carving ( horimono ): naginata-hi on either side. Forging pattern ( jihada ): densely compacted wood grain ( ko-itame ) with some ji-nie . Tempering pattern ( hamon ): irregular patterns ( midare ) with small, randomly-formed invections ( ko-gonome ) in both ko-nie and ara-nie , together with some small floating tempering ( tobiyaki ) in ara-nie . Point ( boshi ): irregular Jizo in ara-nie and with a long kaeri . Tang ( nakago ). Shape ( keitai ): tapering, ubu and with a dry, brown patina; file marks ( yasurime ): slanted ( katte-sagari ); end ( nakagojiri ): rounded ( kuri-jiri ); holes ( mekugi-ana ): one; signature ( mei ): Sagami (no) Kami Fujiwara Masatsune Nyudo . Shirasaya with attestation by Sato Kanzan. Silk storage bag. Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 59579, Showa 36 (1961), issued by the N.B.T.H.K.
