AN UNUSUAL CARVED AND STAINED OAK THRONE CHAIR 19TH CENTURY The pierced arched toprail carved with a draped classical female holding an anchor in her left hand and with a bird resting on her right hand, the rectangular upholstered back covered in a painted and embossed Spanish-style leather panel, worked with an exotic bird, insects and flowering foliage, including a pomegranite, a pear and a bunch of grapes, the similarly upholstered serpentine seat flanked by similarly upholstered padded and down-scrolled armrests, supported by recumbent lions, on acanthus-carved cabriole supports and claw and ball feet joined by a waved apron centred by a lion portrait mask, the reverse bearing a paper label printed with a lion motto and inscribed Henry Fairfax height of back 63in.
