An unusual late Victorian mahogany eight-day wall regulator W. Down, London. Circa 1893 The engraved silvered regulator dial signed W. Down London and dated 1893 in the hour ring, delicate blued steel hands, the movement with four double-screwed pillars, anchor escapement with adjustable steel pallets, the pendulum with zinc and steel gridiron rods and large brass-cased cylindrical bob suspended from a brass block on the backboard with a spring-loaded regulation system adjusted by a calibrated brass nut against an enamelled scale beneath the dial, beat adjustment to the crutch, the wheel train with high quality lantern pinions and anti-friction rollers for the barrel pivots on the back and front plates, the Arts and Crafts case with detachable glazed front with carved pediment and fluted trusses 5 ft. (153 cm.) high
