ANDRADE, Manoel Carlos de (ca. 1755-1817). Luz da liberal, e Nobre Arte da Cavallaria . Lisbon: Regia Officina Typographica, 1790. 2 parts in one volume, 4° (336 x 232mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece of John VI of Portugal, 93 plates (23 of which folding) by Frois, Martini, M. Alegre, Martini, L. F. Piedra and Silva, after Silva, engraved title vignette and 2 engraved head-piece vignettes, 3 engraved historiated initials, woodcut tailpieces, blank leaf ****2 and errata leaf at end. (Tiny burn hole to title, very small marginal chip to H3 , tiny marginal tears to Ff2, short marginal tears to pls 92 & 93, occasional light browning.) Contemporary mottled calf, flat spine ornately gilt with modern black morocco gilt lettering-piece, green edges, marbled endpapers (extremities very lightly rubbed, small nick to tail of spine). Provenance : Iolanda de São Payo -- Antonia de São Payo (early ink ownership inscriptions on title).
