Notice: The seller last modified this listing Tue, 08/06/19 @ 11:47:05 AM ET. Description Two Volumes: Anno Regni GeorgII III. Regis Magnae Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, Decimo. An Act for the Better Regulating the Government of the Province of the Massachusetts' Bay, in New England. London: Printed by Charled Eyre and William Strahan, 1774. Description provided by Bauman - Rare first printing of the British Parliament's Official 1778 Act to repeal the incendiary 1774 Massachusetts Government Act, one of the officially titled Restraining Acts that had, in effect, imposed martial law in the colony as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. Colonists named these the Coercive (aka Intolerable) Acts to express a profound fury that led America toward open rebellion and their Declaration of Independence. Housed in a handsome clamshell box. and Act for restraining and prohibiting the Governor, Council, and House of Representatives, of the Provence of New York, until Provision shall have been shall have been made for furnishing the King's Troops. London: Mark Baskett, 1767. Description provided by Bauman - Very rare first printing of the 1767 New York Restraining Act, one of the controvercial Townshend Acts that sparked outrage and protest in the American colonies. One of only 1100 copies printed. This first printing, from the Sessional Volumes of Parliament precedes all the American printings.
Measurements H/W: Repeal of Massachusetts Act clamshell 13 1/2 by 8 5/8 inches Weight Condition each toned, with scattered staining and discoloration, creases and minor tears; reports provided by Bauman Rare Books, 'Act for Restraining and prohibition the Governor... Folio disbound, complete in three leaves; pp. (2) 891-94. A few small soil-spots to cover page. A nearly fine copy of a rare and fundamental document in Anglo-American history.' 'Act for Repealing an Act. Folio, old fold lined; pp. (2), 292-2292. Housed in custom half morocco clamshell box. Text generally fresh with soiling and light dampstaining. A good copy of one of the fundamental text in Anglo-American history.'
