[28] pp. Illustrated. 23.5x21 cm (9¼x8¼"), boards with pictorial cover label. Scarce and charming fable of Aesop, illustrated with what are apparently linoleum cuts, "Designed and Lettered by the Second Year Class, Ye Paint Pot Publisher, Ida Wells Stroud Instructor." This version of the fable, under the guise of Old Mother Goose, takes an anti-Semitic bent, Jack selling his gold egg to "a rogue of a Jew, who cheated him out of the half of his due," and a few verses later the "Jew got the goose, which he vowed he would kill, resolving at once his pockets to fill." OCLC lists only one copy of the book, at Yale University.
