Antique Ferahan Sarouk rug, Ferahan district, West Persia (Iran), Ca 1875-1890 The complex field design on this rug would appear to require a detailed cartoon for the weaver to follow, yet the entire field is totally improvised with haphazardly placed miniature bird-like boteh motifs. The weaver's understanding of colour harmony, reflecting on Paul Gaugains advice to his students, is truly superb, from the almost black, dramatic border, through the sky blue corners and into the fresh, white ground with soft greens. 200 x 132 cms, 6'7'' x 4'4'' Antique Ferahan Sarouk rug, Ferahan district, West Persia (Iran), Ca 1875-1890 The complex field design on this rug would appear to require a detailed cartoon for the weaver to follow, yet the entire field is totally improvised with haphazardly placed miniature bird-like boteh motifs.
