Antique Heriz runner, Karadagh region, N.W. Persia, Ca 1880-90. The field motifs are usually found in rugs from Lenkoran on the Caucasian side of the border where this runner could conceivably originate, yet the colours and weave features point towards Heriz on the Persian side. Whatever the origin, the piece is an great example of original village weaving with spontaneous details (spot the human figures) and improvised borders. The presence of human figures was usually found in dowry pieces which this runner most probably is an example of. 538 x 107 cms, 17'8'' x 3'6'' Antique Heriz runner, Karadagh region, N.W.
