APOLLO 11 CREW INSURANCE COVER – Postal envelope signed. Postmarked Kennedy Space Center, 16 July 1969. The most rare and desirable of the Apollo 11 insurance covers, depicting the Apollo 11 emblem and signed by all three crew members. SIGNED by Neil ARMSTRONG, Michael COLLINS and Buzz ALDRIN prior to their Apollo 11 flight. The cover is tipped between the paragraphs of a signed provenance letter in which Aldrin describes the story of this envelope: " This postal cover with the Apollo 11 emblem cachet is one of the 'insurance covers' signed by the Apollo 11 crew prior to our launch in July 1969. Since we were unable to obtain adequate life insurance due to the high risk nature of being an astronaut, we signed this group of covers and evenly distributed them to our families for safe keeping while we performed our mission. If an unfortunate event prevented our safe return, the covers would have provided a limited financial means of support to our families. The cover displayed above has been in my private collection since 1969 and has an identifier of BA08 written on the reverse side. It was signed by the Apollo 11 crew - Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and myself prior to our launch back in 1969. The cover was postmarked on the launch day of Apollo 11 at the Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. Four days later, on July 20, Neil Armstrong and I became the first humans to land and walk on another celestial body - the Moon ." 4 by 6 inch envelope with a color crew emblem cachet. Aldrin's ID "BA08" is written on the verso. Tipped to 8.5 by 11 inch letter.
