APOLLO 15 MISSION CHARTS – Three charts, 1971-1975. Three Apollo 15 photography and landing site charts, all signed by Dave SCOTT. The group together reveals an alternative flight plan for Apollo 15 – were the Command Module to have failed to leave Earth orbit for the Moon, the complex features of Apollo 15 landing site Hadley, and the Moon surface landscape up to 48 degrees latitude North and South. Further details on the contents of this lot: 1. Apollo Flight Chart (AFC), Apollo Mission 15. Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, USAF for NASA, 1 June 1971. First Edition. Color Earth map, 10 by 33 inches. Identical to the flown version with part number SKB 32100058-201 in a data block. Designed to assist photography of key Earth surface targets if the flight failed reach the Moon and remained in Earth orbit. SIGNED and INSCRIBED “Dave SCOTT, CDR” in the Indian Ocean area. 2. Hadley, Lunar Topographic Orthophotomap . Defense Mapping Agency for NASA, 1975, 25½ by 27 inches. Lunar chart based on Apollo 15 orbital photographs. SIGNED and INSCRIBED: "Dave SCOTT, CDR." A large back pennant marks the exact landing spot which is surrounded by the long winding Rima Hadley to the left and the Hadley Mountains toward the bottom and right. Red 100 meter interval contour lines denote the extreme elevation between low lands and the high mountain peaks. Detailed chart information is contained in the lower margin. 3. NASA-MSC, MSC1250-71 . 17 by 22 inches. An internal Manned Spacecraft Center chart of the Moon issued in 1971. Features the entire Moon’s surface up to 48 degrees north and south latitude. Mare and the larger craters are identified.
