APOLLO 8 – Apollo Target of Opportunity Flight Chart (ATO), Apollo Mission 8, 21 December 1968 Launch Date. Aeronautical Chart and Information Center of the USAF for NASA, 2 December 1968. Inscribed with the first words from lunar orbit, a reading from Genesis. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by James LOVELL this chart is identical to the one used onboard Apollo 8 by astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders on their December 1968 flight which was the first mission to the moon. These men first saw and captured on film the view of Earth rising above the lunar horizon. On Christmas Eve, this crew broadcast to hundreds of millions of people and read selections from the first Book of the Bible. This chart is inscribed, " In the beginning...." Lunar chart, 14 by 58 inches. Scale 1:7,500,000. First edition. "Mar 27, 1970" stamp on verso.
