Beschreibung:

"Apollo Zone." Cronopaque film lunar equatorial zone chart based on Lunar Orbiter 4 photography. Army Map Service for NASA/MSC Mapping Sciences Laboratory, 10½ by 52 inches. The Apollo Zone was made up of seven sites along the lunar equator to provide flexibility for the initial lunar landings. These sites reflected the concerns of terrain issues, sunlight angles, Earth launch delays, and Earth emergency return. The best of these was landing site 2, selected for the Apollo 11 mission. Site 7 was used during Apollo 12. Apollo 14's site was a new area targeted for science objectives based on engineering experience gained from the previous two landings. Inscribed by BUZZ ALDRIN, ALAN BEAN, and EDGAR MITCHELL—a member from the first three lunar landings. Each has marked his landing site with an "X" or a circle. Signed and inscribed: "Buzz Aldrin, Apollo XI, 7 – 20 – 69"; "Ocean of Storms, Alan Bean, Apollo XII LMP, Nov '69"; "Fra Mauro, Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 LMP, 2 / 71."
