ARAB-ISRAELI WAR 1947-1949 - PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS A group of 34 press photographs, dated 1947-1948, various sizes (largest approx. 260 x 205mm, smaller), most with typescript descriptions on versos, stamps and serial numbers of various British, American, French and Dutch press agencies. (One photograph scored and creased, a few dogeared.) PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DEFINING MOMENT IN 20TH-CENTURY MIDDLE EASTERN HISTORY. Photographs show Arab civilians displaced in refugee camps, evacuation of towns near Gaza by Egyptian troops, armoured car food convoys and food rationing queues in Jerusalem, Irgun manning a captured post wearing former British fatigues, Haganah erecting barbed-wire fences, Arab troops in a captured Jewish armoured car, and Tel-Aviv air-raid wardens salvaging telephone wires after an attack. There are also images of the Arab Legion in the Old City of Jerusalem, together with a photograph of Glubb Pasha, and one of the Arab commander Fawazi El-Kawakji. 3 photographs show Arab-Jewish prisoner and wounded exchanges.
