Architecture] - AVILER, Augustin-Charles d' - Cours d'architecture qui comprend les ordres de Vignole, avec des commentaires, les figures & descriptions de ses plus beaux bâtimens, & de ceux de Michel-Ange; plusieurs nouveaux desseins, ornemens & preceptes (...) & tout ce qui regarde l'art de bâtir (...) [rev. and enl. ed.]. Paris, J. Mariette, 1720, 2 vol., cont. calf (corners, sides and covers rubbed), gilt orn. spines on 5 raised bands (bands rubbed, upper joint vol. I splitting, def. at heads and tails), red leather title labels, [86]-xii-355, [2]-357/920 pp. (some min. browning and staining, waterstains in the blank margins of vol. II). Good copy.
Later enlarged ed. (first 1691) of d'Aviler's (1653-1700) classic manual. Illustrated with 2 frontisp. by Langlois after Boulogne, and by Mariette after Corneille and 136 engr. plates of which 52 double paged or folding and 2 in texto. Vol. II describes several architectural terms. Ownership entries on title " Delahaye ". Ref. Brunet II:540. COPAC. Cp. Fowler 26 (1710 ed.), Bn-Opale plus.
