this archive includes an Order of Daedalians scrapbook with a page signed by all seven of the original U.S. NASA astronauts, Shepard, Grissom, Glenn, Carpenter, Schirra, Cooper and Slayton with articles about their induction into the society along with photographs of same, both individual and group shots, along with photos of Mercury space suits and officials. This scrapbook was put together by the society and used as a registration book for meetings held at several different Air Force Bases from 1960-64. Most of these meetings had special guest speakers, including many famous military aviators and celebrities, with their autographs on the sign-in page, as well as all the members who attended each meeting. This archive also includes a 4to volume entitled Order of Daedalians Constitution, By-Laws and Procedures, n.d, PLUS a large 12mo spiral-bound photograph album, published by National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA Space Task Group, Langley Field, Va, n.d. with illustrated cover of Mercury rocket blasting off, interior with 20 silver prints of the first seven astronauts and other shots dealing with the Mercury Project, certainly a very rare in-house NASA published photo album, AND other items dealing with the society. The Order of Daedalians is a fraternal and professional order of American military pilots. The organization is named after Daedalus, who in Greek mythology was the first person to fly.
