ARIOSTO, Lodovico (1474-1533). La Lena, comedia , [Venice, c. 1535]. 8° (150 x 100mm.), large woodcut portrait of Ariosto on title, in a modern binding of earlier vellum. One of the earliest editions of Ariosto's popular comedy. The portrait of Ariosto is a copy of one in Rossi's 1532 edition of Orlando Furioso , which in turn is a copy of Titian's portrait of the author. Alvise Torti printed the present block in his 21 March 1535 edition of Orlando Furioso . ARIOSTO, Lodovico. La Cassaria , Venice: Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari, 1546. 8° (148 x 95mm.), woodcut device on title, woodcut initials (title a little rubbed and discoloured, top margins cut quite close), late 19th-century green roan gilt (a trifle rubbed). FIRST EDITION of Cassaria in verse. Bongi I, 117; EDIT on-line 2639. (2)
