Orations, of Arsanes agaynst Philip ... of Macedone: of the Embassadors of Venice against the Prince that vnder Crafty League with Scanderbeg, layed snares for Christendome: and of Scanderbeg prayeng Ayde of Christian Princes ... With a Notable Example of Gods Vengeance vppon a Faithlesse Kyng... . London: John Day [1560?]. 2 parts in one volume, 8° in 4s. Titles and some text in roman, the remainder in black letter (part 2 lacks A1, ? blank, P4 crudely repaired at the foremargin and slightly defective lacking a little text, many headlines shaved or cropped, waterstaining and discolouration, last leaf mounted). 19th-century half russia, compartments of flat spine and sides ruled in gilt (foot of spine defective, upper joint split, rubbed). Provenance : From the Library of John Jackson (1793-1875) of Academy Place, Warrington (bookplate). FIRST EDITION in English, first, priced, issue of part 2, of these passages taken from Justinus (the Philippics), Barletius' Historia de uita et gestis Scanderbegi (the oration of the ambassadors and Scanderbeg's entreaty) and Kromer's De origine et rebus gestis Polonorum (the notable example of God's vengeance). Two of these passages have been expanded somewhat from the original and their 'authorship' has been attributed to Thomas Norton. STC 785 & 6046.
