A collection of approximately 38 autograph letters signed by artists (mostly British), including: Joseph Mallord TURNER, to Henry Rogers [brother of Samuel Rogers], proposing a visit; Edward LEAR to Richard Ford referring to his painting of Syracuse, to Ford's book [on Spain] making him 'very frantic' for Granada, and to Philip's painting of Seville; John Frederick LEWIS 3 letters to Sir John Watson Gordon J. Scott and C.R. Leslie, referring to Mulready, the Royal Scottish Academy's wish for a specimen of his work, and to a possible exchange of a sketch with a 'Wilkie' at 40 guineas; Peter de WINT 6 letters to Sir Martin Shee and others, on works by other Academicians, and referring to his own commissions; others by artists including Sir Francis Chantry, David Cox (2), William Daniell (to J.W. Croker, at the Admiralty, on his visit to sketch the dockyard at Portsmouth), Francis Danby William Hilton James Holland William Hunt Frederick Leighton, Walter Crane (2, one with a caricature of H.M.
