Atget: Photographe de Paris, 1930

Estimate
US$700 - US$1,000
Price realised:
US$468
Beschreibung:

Text in French. Illustrated with 96 collotype plates from photographs by Atget, fold-out photograph table of contents at rear. (4to) maroon silk stamped in gilt. First Edition. Atget's photographs of la vie quotidienne in Paris inspired Berenice Abbott Man Ray's assistant, who would become a major photographer in her own right. "Abbott met Atget in 1926, one year before he died. The young photographer saw in the old man's work a 'relentless fidelity to fact,' and 'a deep love of the subject for its own sake.' Abbott rescued Atget's archives...brought them with her to New York in 1929, and spent the next forty years of her life preserving, printing, and promoting his work." - David Levi Strauss in Roth, pp. 60-61.
