ATLAS. (PINKERTON, JOHN. A modern atlas : from the latest and best authorities... Philadelphia, T. Dobson & son, 1818). Lacking title. Large folio. (i)-vii pp (Introduction). Lacking title. 60 double page engraved maps with outline colour (lacking one [no 61, The world, Eastern part], partly with dampstains in the beginning, otherwise dampstains to margins, some offsetting, minor repair in margin of 2 maps with small text losses; Introduction leaves with new margins or reinforcements of margins, first leaf spotted and soiled, 1 additional leaf stained). Maps engraved by S. Neele after I. Herbert. Brown half calf (20th century) with title on spine "Pinkerton's Atlas", partly rubbed. Photo. First edition published in London 1815. This seems to be the American edition from 1818. The map no 12, "Remote British Isles", is here present without the two images and Shetland isles. With maps of Australia, Polynesia, Africa, China and 5 maps of North America amongst others. Lacking title and last map.
