Attributed to Mario Nuzzi called Mario dei Fiori 17th Century Still Life of Flowers Surrounding a Carved Relief of the Triumph of S... 17th Century Still Life of Flowers Surrounding a Carved Relief of the Triumph of Saint Dominic over Heresy Oil on canvas 68 1/4 x 54 3/4 inches (173.4 x 139 cm) Provenance: Collection of Mrs. Oliver Ames, Boston, 1946 McGinnis Collection Sale, Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc., Apr. 29, 1965, Acquired from the above Private collection, New York, from 1965 until the present Estate of a New York Gentleman
Not restored since it was purchased in 1965, so all restoration dates to before that time. The canvas ; the varnish layer is dense and hard to penetrate with UV light. The impasto of the flowers is flattened. There is a 5-inch vertical tear in the upper right quadrant, and some pitting of the surface. Also inpainting around the flowers in the upper right quadrant.
