Catalogue Essay In 1972, Audemars Piguet released what many consider one of the most iconic designs from the last 40 years. The Royal Oak, designed by Gerald Genta, is still in production today and accounts for 70% of Audemars Piguet's sales. The Royal Oak, first cased in stainless steel, cost more to manufacture than their white gold dress watches. It is also interesting to note that the Royal Oak was introduced 4 years prior to Patek Philippe's Nautilus. The present example is numbered 548, indicating that it is the 548th Royal Oak ever produced and has been retained in completely original condition with sharp lines and facets to the case and bezel. The dial has also turned a very charismatic brown, giving this Royal Oak Jumbo enormous character and presence on the wrist. Read More
