(10 1/4 x 6 1/2in.), contemporary purple hard-grained half morocco and marbled boards, spines gilt-lettered, joints of vols. 5 and 7 cracked, other joints and corners rubbed or worn, very occasional and minor text offset through original tissues to plates, extreme edges of leaves occasionally darkened, small blank marginal loss to text leaf 26/2 in vol. 4. FIRST OCTAVO EDITION, half-titles, 500 hand-colored lithographed plates after Audubon by W.E. Hitchcock, R. Trembly and others, printed and colored by J.T. Bowen, wood-engraved anatomical diagrams in the text, subscribers lists in all vols. Ayer/Zimmer, p. 22; Bennett, p. 5; McGill/Wood, p. 208; Nissen IVB 51; Sabin 2364.
