AUGSBURG, Public Library -- Elias EHINGER (1573-1653). Catalogus bibliothecae amplissimae reipublicae Augustanae. Augsburg: Johann Praetorius, 1633. 2 o (302 x 195 mm). Title printed in red and black, with engraved Augsburg arms, printer's device at end. Contemporary vellum (upper spine end defective). Provenance : Georg Steubronner, (owner's name on front free endpaper dated 1823); Hämmerle (ink stamp on title). This is the second catalogue of the City Library of Augsburg, published thirty-three years after Henisch's. Ehinger was Henisch's successor as librarian and rector of St. Anne. During these years the library had expanded considerably: the index now refers to the works by roughly 6,500 authors. Col. 879-983 contain the separate catalogue of the library of the eminent scholar Marcus Welser (1558-1614) which he had left to the City Library. A late 18th-century hand has noted on a flyleaf of this copy "Catalogus rarissimus ob exemplarium impressorum paucitate." RARE.
