The New York Trilogy (Mimeograph manuscript).
Photocopy of the typewritten manuscript comprising City of Glass , Ghosts , and The Locked Room . 4to. 491 pp. Photcopied with author’s occasional redactions and handwritten revisions scattered throughout. Inscription on the title page that reads “ For Paul Lichter & Sarah Jones - / Their personal copy, / with love. / Paul Auster / June 6, 1985.” Originally published sequentially as City of Glass (1985), Ghosts (1986) and The Locked Room (1986), The New York Trilogy first appeared under one cover (as is this manuscript) in 1994 published by Sun & Moon Press. Groundbreaking in its time and still influential to this day, The New York Trilogy expands upon a particular form of postmodern detective fiction which utilizes well-worn elements of the detective novel (e.g. the classical and the hard-boiled detective novel), while creating a new form that links traditional genre conventions with the more experimental and metafictional concerns of postmodernism.
