Australia.- Bible, English.- The Bible, 2 parts in 1, titles within woodcut pictorial borders, woodcut illustrations and maps in text, OT title trimmed to border and laid down with some loss. lacking [par.]2, and pp.130-196, and 1-187, preliminaries frayed, stained and light browned throughout, 19th century calf, rebacked, preserving majority of backstrip, corners, worn, rubbed and scuffed, [STC 2190], small 4to, Robert Barker 1603. sold not subject to return. ⁂ Provenance: 'Small token of remembrance to Captain John Kell on his first voyage in the Prima Donna from London to Swan River from his affect. friend John Smithies, April 27th, 1840, "Search the Scriptures", John 5:39'. The Rev. John Smithies was a Wesleyan Methodist missionary who served in the Swan River Colony of Western Australia. He travelled there aboard the Prima Donna with his wife and four children, landing near Freemantle on 22nd June, 1840.
