Vienna: Johann Thomas Edlen von Trattnern, 1769. 2 o (405 x 262 mm). 30 engraved plates, some folding. Contemporary Austrian red morocco, sides finely gold-tooled to a rococco design with tools of floral swags, imperial arms blocked at center, spine gilt in seven compartments, black morocco lettering-piece in the second, gilt and gauffered edges (some worming to spine ends). Provenance : Princes of Liechtenstein (bookplate); [Christie's, London, 15 July, 1981, lot 327 (to Quaritch)]. LARGE PAPER COPY. The engravings depict instruments of torture scenes, with instructions for their use. Handsomely bound, no doubt in a Viennese shop. Lipperheide Pi 7.
