AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION. A collection of autograph letters and documents addressed to Timothy Yeats Brown (b.1789), British Consul-general at Genoa, and his son, Montagu Yeats Brown, also Consul-general (1834-1921), from writers, royals, English and Italian statesmen, ambassadors, scientists and musicians, including
AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION. A collection of autograph letters and documents addressed to Timothy Yeats Brown (b.1789), British Consul-general at Genoa, and his son, Montagu Yeats Brown, also Consul-general (1834-1921), from writers, royals, English and Italian statesmen, ambassadors, scientists and musicians, including: Queen VICTORIA (two autograph notes signed ('VRI'), 1876 and 1890, to her daughter Victoria, the Empress Frederick), and her uncles George Frederick, 2nd Duke of Cambridge and Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex; the radical and philologist John Horne TOOKE, Ernst HAECKEL (1880 and 1904), the diplomatist Sir James Hudson, Edmund, 1st Baron Lyons, the novelist and statesman Massimo d'Azeglio Ruggero Bonghi, George Macdonald (1881), Emily Lawless, John Murray Charles Lever and Mary Somerville (1864, and related correspondence from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie); altogether approximately 88 letters , together with two photographs, one of Agnes Bellingham, and pressed flowers given to her by the Empress Frederick; and a printed pamphlet,'Maria Avegno, Canto, di Luigi Mercantini, 1855'; tipped into an autograph album, 4to, diced black leather gilt (lower joint split). Provenance : Montagu Yeats Brown - presented to his wife, Agnes, née Bellingham (20 January 1893).
