AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION -- MUSIC. A collection of approximately 64 letters, primarily from composers and musicians, 19th Century, addressed to John Wallace of the Glasgow Choral Union or Scottish Orchestra Company, Glasgow (in some cases the recipient unidentified), the correspondents including
AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION -- MUSIC. A collection of approximately 64 letters, primarily from composers and musicians, 19th Century, addressed to John Wallace of the Glasgow Choral Union or Scottish Orchestra Company, Glasgow (in some cases the recipient unidentified), the correspondents including: Arthur SULLIVAN. Three autograph letters signed, [14 December 1875 - 29 November 1876], asking for an address, complaining that 'the work here is so enormous preparing for the opening', and sending a reminder that an organist is needed in the following day's rehearsal -- 'The Organ is wanted for my Overture in the "Light of the World"', together 3 pages, 8vo ; and letters by Hans von Bülow (letter and card), Sir Michael Costa, Alexandre Guilmant, Charles Hallé (4), George Henschel, Joseph Joachim (three, 1893-5), William Thomson Lord Kelvin, Nellie Melba (giving her desired programme), C. Hubert Parry (2), Hans Richter Camille Saint-Saëns, Charles Villiers Stanford (3) and others.
